MANILA, Philippines ? Residents of BF Homes in Las Piñas City may soon have a regular supply of water if a memorandum of agreement allowing Maynilad Water to service their area is signed next week.
Las Piñas Mayor Vergel Aguilar said on Wednesday the proposal, which would compensate subdivision developer BF Homes Inc. (BFHI) for ?right-of-way? in the pipe-laying project, would speed up the delivery of water services in the city.
Some 4,000 households stand to benefit from the agreement, which may be signed next week, barring any obstacles.
Aguilar said the meeting on Wednesday among stakeholders, which included BFHI, Maynilad and the United BF Homeowners Association Inc. (UBFHAI) was ?fruitful? as the parties concerned tried to come up with a win-win solution.
?Under the law, BFHI has property rights so a certain amount has to be paid to them. With this, BFHI agreed to allow Maynilad to come in,? he told the Inquirer.
In effect, residents will pay an additional P10 per cubic meter in their Maynilad water bill for four years. The amount will go to BFHI as ?compensation.?
Aside from Maynilad?s standard P7,000 service connection fee, Aguilar said households in Las Piñas would be charged only P300 a month for the installation of water pipes.
Vice Mayor Henry Medina, meanwhile, said that the proposal to compensate the water company came from residents.
?We want to clarify that this P10 [proposed add-on] did not come from us. This came from the homeowners who wanted to settle this issue so Maynilad can come in,? he said.
The Las Piñas proposal would only be final if approved by stakeholders and the regulatory office of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.
?We?re praying everything will be settled soon. I?m a resident of BF myself and for the 16 years that we?ve been here, we?ve been having our water delivered,? said Medina.
