MANILA, Philippines? The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) has designated four command posts that can coordinate operations for the rescue of persons who went missing during floods caused by typhoon Ondoy, a radio report said.
In a report over radio station dzBB, Philippine National Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Leonardo Espina said families can text the names of missing persons to posts located in Marikina, Quezon City, Pasig City and Cainta, Rizal?four of the areas badly hit by Ondoy.
Espina gave the contact numbers as follows: for Marikina, coordinate with Mon Santiago at 0920-9389914; for Quezon City, coordinate with Teresa Amarillo at 0921-6555262; for Pasig City, send text to 0918-9356318; and for Cainta, 0917-5606241.
Ondoy submerged 80 percent of Metro Manila on Saturday and over 90 percent of Rizal province, leaving the areas mired in mud after the floods subsided, said NDCC.
Typhoon Ondoy, with international code name Ketsana, dumped 341 millimeters of rainfall over Metro Manila in just six hours on Saturday morning--the highest rainfall recorded in the region for over 40 years, according to the state weather bureau.
