MANILA, Philippines -- Drivers who wish to renew their licenses this week will have to wait until next year as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is closed for the remainder of the holidays, its chief Alberto Suansing said on Monday.
In a phone interview, Suansing said that the LTO and its branches would reopen Jan. 5, 2009.
Suansing said that drivers who failed to renew their licenses would have to face appropriate penalties.
?They should have done that before the holidays. They have 60 days before the deadline within which they can renew their license,? he added.
Suansing said the 12 LTO assistance centers located inside malls across Metro Manila would also be closed.
Meanwhile, LTO is looking at the possibility of waiving the penalty for those who failed to register their motor vehicles during the fourth week of the month.
Some of the malls that have LTO assistance centers include SM North, Farmers? Plaza, Robinson Galleria, SM Manila, SM Megamall, and SM Hypermart in Pasig.
