MANILA, Philippines -- The young man who ran over and killed two scavengers along Katipunan Avenue Saturday morning was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident and is now facing charges of damage to property and reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide.

Police Officer 2 Renato Sunga, of the Quezon City Police District Traffic Sector-3 (QCPD-TS3), said 20-year-old Juan Carlo Rafael Saulog of Mandaluyong City, was driving the Mazda-3 car with license plate XTK-708 that ran over Christopher Gonce and Adrian Semillano.

Saulog's car likewise bore a National Prosecutor's League commemorative plate.

Sunga said Saulog reeked of liquor when he was arrested and was still detained at the QCPD-Station 3 as of Saturday, pending the filing of charges against him.

Gonce and Semillano, both 18, were killed instantly after they were hit by Saulog?s car before dawn on Saturday while they were sifting through garbage just across the Ateneo De Manila University, along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City. Their bicycle with sidecar was also damaged.

The two teenagers were residents of South Zuzuaregui Street, Barangay (Village) Old Balara, in Diliman.

Sunga said the accident happened at around 12:30 a.m., on the southbound lane of Katipunan Avenue in the village of Loyola Heights.

Both teenagers died instantly from multiple injuries in the head and body. Their bodies were brought to the Prime Funeral Parlor.
