MANILA, Philippines -- The University of the Philippines Alumni Association will launch a special three-volume UPAA 2008 Centennial Yearbook on Saturday, June 21, 2008, during the UPAA Grand Alumni-Faculty Homecoming and Reunion at the Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City.
Focusing on the theme ?UP Alumni: Excellence, Leadership and Service in the Next 100 Years,? Volume 1 features the year?s distinguished alumni awardees and essays by prominent personalities. Volume 2 is devoted to jubilarians while Volume 3 presents
profiles of UPAA chapters and alumni organizations. The cover designs of the yearbook portray the works of National Artists Napoleon Abueva, Abdul Imao, and BenCab, respectively.
Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno topbills as the most distinguished alumnus awardee. He and 46 other awardees are featured in volume 1 of the yearbook. Included in this volume are perceptive articles on the theme by the following prominent UP alumni: Senator Jovito Salonga, Jose Abueva, Emil Javier, Randy David, Edgardo Espiritu, Senator Santanina Rasul, Mercedes Concepcion, Representative Etta Rosales, Solita Monsod, Justice Ameurfina Herrerra, and Loida Nicolas Lewis.
Poems were contributed by National Artist Virgilio Almario, Gimeno Abad, and Benilda Santos. A special feature article was prepared by Erlinda Panlilio. Other features include stories on the UP Century Man, the restoration of the UP Carillon Tower, the Sablay sash, and the UP Repertory Theatre.
Volume 2 of the Yearbook contains articles written by this year?s jubilarians -- classes of 1947 and earlier, ?48, ?53, ?58, ?63, ?68, ?73, ?78, and ?83. Their names and recent photos are also included.
Volume 3 focuses on UPAA and its many chapters and alumni organizations. It features the results of a research study on ?Milestones in the History of the UPAA? by UP Prof. Jaime Veneracion. It also profiles more than 100 UPAA chapters from all over the Philippines and abroad.
