MANILA, Philippines--Beaming with pride and joy, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri talks about his first-born Adriana, who was delivered June 10 via Caesarean section at the Makati Medical Center. The baby weighed 7 pounds and 10 ounces at birth and measured 20 inches at birth. The new father said the baby was "Katas ng Malunggay (product of the leafy vegetable malunggay)," which he claimed helped his wife conceive after two years. MANILA, Philippines -- Senator Miguel “Migz” Zubiri is new father to baby girl Adriana, born by Caesarean delivery at the Makati Medical Center around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

“It feels great,” the ecstatic senator told reporters Wednesday afternoon.

“[The day my baby was born] is one of the happiest days of my life,” he said. “My first happiest day is when I married my wife, and the second, the coming of my firstborn.”

Zubiri and former Studio 23 VJ Audrey exchanged “I do’s” in 2005.

Baby Adriana is a product of malunggay (Moringa oleifera), Zubiri said.

The freshman senator said he read about the tropical plant’s ability to aid in making babies. For one month, the couple had all sorts of malunggay dishes.

And they made it.

The first-time father was obviously still in awe of having a baby. “Gusto ko na nga umuwi e (I already want to go home),” he said even before the start of Wednesday’s session.

Now he’s learning to feed and carry Adriana, but he has to be very careful because she seems very “fragile.”

The couple was planning for a normal delivery when the doctors noticed that part of the umbilical cord was wound around the baby’s neck. So the doctors were forced to perform surgery.

They named the baby Adriana because it is the Spanish version of Audrey, Zubiri said.
