Telecom firm campaigns for Earth Hour participation

06:56 PM March 22, 2011

MANILA, Philippines–Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom is campaigning for Earth Hour participation among its employees and their families even as it enjoins the public to be part of the international call to action against the adverse effects of global warming and climate change.

Earth Hour, the world’s largest social mobilization event, is scheduled from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 26, where concerned citizens and organizations from countries worldwide are expected to turn off their lights for one hour.

This year’s theme encourages the people “to commit to actions that go beyond the hour” to make the world a better place.

On March 25, Globe is set to conduct a text blast to millions of its postpaid and prepaid cell phone service subscribers who have expressed willingness to accept free advisories from the company.

Globe has been an ardent supporter of Earth Hour since it was introduced in 2008.  Its participation has resulted in an accumulated 304,335 watts of electricity conserved from its corporate offices and signages alone.
