Army soldier slain in Quezon encounter
LUCENA CITY – A government soldier was killed in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in General Nakar town in Quezon province Monday afternoon, police said.
A platoon of Army soldiers under one 2nd Lt. Candog clashed with NPA guerrillas in Barangay Umiray in the Sierra Madre mountain ranges around 3:45 p.m., said a report from the Quezon police headquarters.
The firefight that lasted for 30 minutes, reportedly left a certain Sgt. Samillano dead.
The report alleged that an undetermined number of NPA rebels were also killed in the battle. DELFIN T. MALLARI JR.
