Barangay chief shot dead in Compostela Valley
TAGUM CITY – Unidentified gunmen shot dead the president of the Association of Barangay Captains in Monkayo town, Compostela Valley on Saturday, authorities said.
Danilo Daanton, chief of Barangay Banlag, was gunned down by an undetermined number of assailants after playing basketball in Barangay Poblacion past 5 p.m., Compostela Valley Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy told Inquirer by mobile phone.
Witnesses said the victim was on his motorcycle after participating in a basketball game when attacked in the vicinity of Golden Plains Subd. at Purok (Community) 5, in Barangay Poblacion.
“I condemn the brutal killing of one of the most respected barangay captains in our province,” Uy said.
“Justice for Kap Daanton,” he added.
As a member of the Liga ng mga Barangay (League of Barangays) in Monkayo, Daanton was also an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan.

The governor said the slain village chief was seeking reelection and was the lone candidate for the post in his barangay. /atm
