Man stabs seaman he accused of being a police asset
A seaman who had sought shelter from the rain remained under observation in a hospital after he was stabbed by an unidentified man in Pasay City.
John Paul dela Peña, a 29-year-old seaman, is being treated for stab wounds in the arm, chest and hand, according to case investigator PO3 Robinson Alsol.
The victim was waiting for the rain to stop in front of a rice store at the corner of P. Manahan and Leveriza Streets in Barangay 30 when the unidentified man approached him at 1 a.m. on Saturday.
He said the assailant, who was around 5’-5” in height and between 20 and 25 years old, asked him who he was and what he was doing there.
The assailant left after he replied that he was a seaman.
The man later returned, this time armed with a knife and accused him of being a police asset.
To prove his allegation wrong, Dela Peña said he showed his seaman ID, but the man demanded that he give him his cell phone. A struggle ensued and the stranger stabbed the seaman. —Dexter Cabalza
