Man killed in Mandaue road accident

A WORKER of a health care company was killed while his companion was critically wounded after the vehicle they rode on was hit by a van in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City, last Thursday night.

Eric Enrile, a worker of Unilab and a native of Davao City, was declared dead when he was brought to the Mandaue District Hospital. Enrile’s companion, Zeta Acaba, 24, a medical representative, was critically wounded.

Acaba is a native of Bohol who temporarily lives in sitio Kalubihan, barangay Labogon, Mandaue.

The two were on board a Hyundai Getz with plate number ZRG-954 driven by Enrile.

PO2 Nelvin Liones, traffic investigator of the Mandaue City Police Office, said the Hyundai Getz was headed to Zuelig Street and was about to cross the intersection of Ouano Avenue and C.D. Seno Street when it was hit by a van.

The van was driven by Sherwin Baring, 30, of sitio Bagumbayan, barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City. Four Koreans were also on board the van that was headed for Lapu-Lapu City.

Liones said the Hyundai Getz arrived at the intersection first when it was hit by the van.

The car driven by Enrile still moved about 70 meters from the point of impact before it rammed into a gutter.

Enrile and Baring sustained injuries in the head and body.

Baring was detained at the Subangdaku police precinct.

Sherwin Acaba, brother of Zeta, said the family will file charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injuries against Baring.
