Bangladesh housewife gets life for torturing minor house help

A housewife was sentenced to life term imprisonment for torturing an 11-year-old domestic help and dumping her into a dustbin assuming her dead in Dhaka in September 2013.

Judge Jayasree Samaddar of the Third Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression also fined the convict, Nawrin Jahan, Tk 1 lakh (P63,000), in presence of the accused.

The money will be handed over the victim’s family.

The court also acquitted Narwin’s mother from the charge as allegation brought against her was not proved.

Soon after the judgment, Aduri, now 15, expressed satisfaction over the verdict.

The case was filed with Pallabi Police Station on September 26, 2013 accusing Nawrin and her mother of torturing Aduri inhumanly. Police on the same day arrested Nawrin.
