Wanted Japanese falls in Parañaque

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said deportation proceedings started rolling on Thursday against a Japanese national who is wanted in Tokyo for insurance fraud and swindling.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the wanted Japanese as 38-year-old Suzuki Yuya, who was arrested by BI agents on Wednesday.
Yuya was arrested by operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) at his residence along Pearl Street, South Greenpark Village, Severina Avenue, Km. 18, Parañaque City. He has been in the country for more than three years evading the charges he is facing in Tokyo.
Morente added that Yuya was already an undocumented alien upon his arrest as his passport had already been canceled by the Japanese government.
He said that aside from being an undocumented alien, the Japanese will be deported for posing risk to public safety and security due to his being a fugitive from justice.
According to Bobby Raquepo, BI-FSU head, Yuya has an outstanding warrant of arrest issued by the Japanese Court in Tokyo on March 16, 2017.
Raquepo said Yuya was charged for health insurance fraud where he earned more than 22 million yen in September 2010 when he falsely claimed medical insurance because he was being treated for cancer.
He was also charged with defrauding another victim of more than 490,000 yen after inducing the latter to invest in coin trading.
The Japanese is now detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig pending the arrival in Manila of a team of Japanese policemen who will escort him back to Japan. JPV/rga
