Cop killed in Cainta ambush

A member of the Rizal provincial police was shot dead on his way home by a motorbike-riding assailant in Cainta, Rizal, on Friday morning.

The police identified the victim as PO3 Christian Labay Valdeavilla, who reported to the Rizal police public safety battalion.

Valdeavilla, who was also travelling on a motorbike, was ambushed on Ortigas Avenue Extension in Brookside, Barangay San Isidro around 10:15 a.m., according to SPO1 Efren Ragguinan, the investigator from the Cainta police.

The victim was in civilian clothes and heading home to San Jose, Rodriguez (formerly Montalban) also in Rizal.

He had a pistol tucked in his waistband but was unable to retaliate when shot by the gunman, who wore a black jacket, denim pants and a full-face helmet, Ragguinan said.

The police are looking into Valdeavilla’s previous operations to establish the possible motive for the killing.
