ZAMBOANGA CITY – A student was killed while three others were wounded in a grenade explosion inside the campus of Comprehensive National High School in Barangay (village) Poblacion in Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday morning.

Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, police chief for Western Mindanao, said the students found the M79 grenade on campus grounds.

“They played with it, but it dropped on the concrete floor and exploded,” Beltran said.
The wounded were all seventh graders. One the students died while being treated at the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center.
Beltran said members of the Explosives and Ordnance Division from the military and police were clearing the campus premises.
