Councilor, companion shot dead in Ecija

GAPAN CITY—A city councilor and his companion were shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen on Wednesday afternoon.

Councilor Sonny San Jose and Antonio Punzal were attacked by the gunmen at the doorsteps of a certain Ruel Francisco’s home in Mangino village around 1 p.m., police said.

Police forensic investigators recovered a bullet shell fired from a cal .45 handgun.

The police are trying to determine why the councilor and Punzal were targeted. RAM/rga
