THE PHILIPPINE National Red Cross (PNRC) Cebu Chapter’s is set to hold its third running event dubbed Red Cross Million Volunteer Run on Dec. 4 at the Sumilon Road of the Cebu Business Park.

This will serve as PNRC’s third year of staging a running event in Cebu and will also be held in key cities simultaneously nationwide.

This year, the run aims to raise funds for PNRC’s volunteers and help its six services to the community, especially its blood letting campaign. The race is part of the International Year of the Volunteers celebrated worldwide by the Red Cross.

“We are encouraging running clubs and private companies in Cebu to join our cause, because this will help Red Cross a lot,” said Allan Ouano of Red Cross during the official launching yesterday at the PNRC Cebu Chapter office along Osmeña Boulevard. He was joined by race director Joel Baring and PNRC Cebu Chapter assistant vice president Paul Benemerito.

The running event will offer 3-kilometer, 6-k and 12-k distances. Registration fee is pegged at P300 inclusive of the race singlet, map and refreshments after the race. The race will start simultaneously with Rizal, Manila and Quezon for a total of 96 chapters of Red Cross nationwide.

Cash prizes and medals await winners in the 6k and 12k categories.

This run also serves to promote Red Cross’ 143 volunteer program, which is aiming to put 44 volunteers in each barangays here in Cebu City. So far, barangay Guadalupe has now established its own 143 volunteers. Registration starts this Monday at the RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu and at the PNRC Office.  Correspondent Dale Rosal
