Petty criminals go to jail while the corrupt people become public officials.

Such was how vice presidential candidate Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano described the fate of Filipinos during his proclamation rally in Tondo, Manila on Tuesday night.

The senator lamented how poor Filipinos gripped by poverty easily get into jail while the crooks get elected into public office.

Pag nagnakaw ka ng antibiotic kasi maysakit ang iyong ina, kulong ka,” he said, drawing a loud applause from the crowd.

(Is it prohibited to steal in the Philippines? It is prohibited to steal small things. If you steal a few pieces of bread because your family is hungry, you will be jailed. If you steal antibiotic because your mother is sick, you will be jailed.)

(However, if you steal big, you will become a mayor. If you steal bigger, you will become a congressman. If you steal what the congressman has stolen, you will become a senator. And if you are associated with Napoles, you will become the president of the Republic of the Philippines.)

If elected vice president, Cayetano vowed to level the playing field for both the rich and the poor.

He said the country is in chaos because of corruption, which he vowed to fight if he wins the vice presidency.

The tandem of Cayetano and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is running under the platform of ending criminality, illegal drugs and corruption in government. RAM
