Parañaque was converted from a municipality to a highly urbanized city on Feb. 13, 1998, through Republic Act No. 8507 signed by then President Fidel Ramos. As of the 2010 Census, Parañaque City had a population of more than 588,000 in its 16 barangays. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
