Bangladeshi slain in QC road ambush

A Bangladeshi national was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen as he was driving his sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Quezon City on Friday afternoon. The police identified the victim as Anisur Rahman, 48, a native of Dhaka and a resident of Mapagbigay Street, Barangay Pinyahan. The victim was driving a Toyota Fortuner around 12:45 p.m. when he was ambushed near the corner of Kalayaan and Kamias roads, Barangay East Kamias. Witnesses said the assailants managed to drive close to the SUV and aimed for the victim’s head, according to Supt. Richard Fiesta, commander of the Quezon City Police District’s Anonas station. Rahman was apparently smoking while driving and thus had one window open, exposing himself to the attackers, the official added. The gunmen, who both wore black jackets and helmets, fled toward Edsa. Police recovered from the vehicle the victim’s IDs, jewelry and some cash but they did not find a cell phone. Rima Granali

Marikina drug suspect arrested–again

A suspected drug dealer and a teenager who allegedly served as his courier were arrested in a buy-bust operation Thursday night in Marikina City. Apolinario Castro, 53, was charged with drug possession in July 2013 but he managed to post bail and later landed again on the list of the most wanted persons in the Eastern Police District (EPD). Castro was arrested at his house on A. De Guzman Street, Barangay Concepcion Uno after he sold P500 worth of “shabu” to an undercover agent of the EPD-Special Operations Task Group, according of SOTG head Supt. Jose Ogbac Jr. Two more sachets of shabu were found stuffed in a metallic cigarette case he was keeping. A 15-year-old boy, who allegedly served as Castro’s delivery boy and link to his supplier, arrived at the house while the police were still there. The teenager was also arrested after he yielded a 2.5-gram pack of shabu when frisked, said SPO1 Peter Villanueva, a member of the task group. A weeklong surveillance on Castro’s house noted that almost 20 people had gone there during that period. Jovic Yee
