3-termer barangay chair killed in Taguig

12:12 AM January 22, 2015

Taguig police investigators said they were looking into politics as one of the motives behind the killing of a 67-year-old barangay chair who was serving his third term.

A police report identified the victim as Aurelio Padilla of Barangay (village) New Lower Bicutan.

Senior Supt. Felix Asis, Taguig police chief, said that Padilla was on his way home from the barangay hall when he was shot by two men on a motorcycle in front of a car shop on MLQ Street, Purok 2 in New Lower Bicutan, at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The gunmen fled while the victim was rushed to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital after he sustained four gunshot wounds.

The police later found casings from a 9-mm pistol at the crime scene, Asis said.

From the district hospital, Padilla was transferred to St. Luke’s Medical Center where he was declared dead at 4 a.m., the police official added.

“So far, the angle [of politics] has not cropped up but that’s one of the [motives] we are looking at,” Asis said.
