BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—A close aide of Cagayan Rep. Randolph Ting was shot and killed by a lone gunman while he was on his way home in Tuguegarao City on Thursday morning.

Georgy Tong, chief of staff of Ting’s congressional office in Tuguegarao and the lawmaker’s political officer, died from a bullet wound to the head, said Senior Supt. Ronaldo Olay, Cagayan provincial police director.

Ting, in a telephone interview, said Tong had just dropped off his son at Tuguegarao City Science High School and was driving his scooter on his way home when the gunman, on another motorcycle, attacked him on Bassig Street in Barangay Ugac Sur at 7 a.m.

“A few days ago, he already mentioned to me about receiving threats to his life,” said Ting. Melvin Gascon, Inquirer Northern Luzon
