‘Glenda’ death toll reaches 98

MANILA, Philippines—The death toll from Typhoon “Glenda” that hit Luzon and the Visayas last week rose to 98, the Office for Civil Defense said Wednesday.

In its bulletin, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the latest fatality, Jorge Osmilio from Marinduque, was previously reported as missing.

It added that 630 were injured during Glenda’s fury, and five people were still listed missing.

NDRRMC spokesman Romina Marasigan said the tally was updated as some of the typhoon-hit areas just got their power back.

“We have just received reports, as their power supply was restored just recently,” Marasigan said.

Of the new people on the injured list, 77 came from Bataan, nine from Pampanga, 27 from Zambales, 17 from Quezon, six from Batangas, 29 from Laguna, one from Albay, 17 from Northern Samar, and 12 from Biliran.

NDRRMC added that power in Metro Manila was 100-percent restored as of Tuesday evening, with Cavite and Batangas at 96% and 85% power.

Damage to infrastructure was placed at P1,514,432,958.95 and to agriculture at P8,946,413,536.38 for a total of P10,460,846,495.33.
