3 of 11 inmates who escaped Mandaluyong jail recaptured

MANILA, Philippines–‎Three of the eleven inmates who bolted from the detention cell of Mandaluyong City Police station are now under police custody after two more others were recaptured early Tuesday.

On Monday, theft suspect Gabby Capistrano was turned in by a relative to the police after he and 10 others sawed off the iron bars of a window in the toilet inside their cell‎.

Police Alber Llaneta, detained for qualified theft, and one inmate were recaptured by the police.

Five duty officers, including the jail supervisor, were immediately relieved and were now facing administrative charges for failing to secure the station.

Jail supervisory Inspector Reynigildo Suarez, Duty desk officer PO3 Mateo Naayao,‎ jail guards PO2 Edward Pasco, PO3 Edwin Quiaile, and PO1 Jose Zapata are among those charged.

Manhunt for the eight remaining escapees is ongoing.
