Army soldier wounded in Compostela Valley clash
TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, Philippines – A soldier was wounded in a clash with communist rebels in Monkayo and Laak towns in Compostela Valley on Tuesday.
Senior Supt. Camilo Cascolan, Compostela Valley police chief, said that at around 12:30 noon, troops from the 25th IB and about 40 communist rebels under a certain Rebo clashed in Casoon village in Monkayo town, leaving a certain Corporal Baysa wounded in the shoulder.
Soldiers also recovered M-14 and M-16 rifles, improvised explosive device and pieces of subversive documents.
Earlier, at 10:30 a.m., soldiers belonging to the Army’s 60th Infantry Battalion encountered about 30 New People’s Army rebels in the village of Ampawid in Laak.
