Tacloban to adjust curfew for Simbang Gabi

MANILA, Philippines – With Simbang Gabi (dawn Mass) in mind, the Philippine National Police (PNP) plans to adjust the curfew in Tacloban City in Leyte, a Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) report said.
Superintendent Henry Losañes, Eastern Visayas Police Chief, said they will soon meet with the Catholic Church officials in the city to discuss security measures for the Filipino tradition known as Misa de Gallo or Simbang Gabi.
“I will be visiting him (the Bishop) to get the official schedule of the Simbang Gabi so that we can adjust ‘yung time and implementation ng curfew natin,” Losañes said.
He said the peace and order situation in the city has also improved.
At present, the PNP has been implementing a curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in Tacloban City and Guiuan, Eastern Samar, especially after reports of looting and other crimes after Supertyphoon “Yolanda” ravaged the region.
Simbang Gabi, which lasts for nine days before Christmas, begins on December 16. Filipinos attend Mass held in the evening or at dawn as part of the Catholic tradition.
