MANILA, Philippines – A man was killed after he was hit by a passenger train in Manila early Monday, police said.

Senior Police Officer 1 Bernie Patdo of Manila Police District-Station 10 said the victim was hit by a Philippine National Railways train in Pandacan, Manila around 6:27 a.m.

Cichero Claro of PNR-Operations Center identified the victim as Ephraim Peralta, estimated to be around 26 to 30 years old.

Claro said Peralta jumped off from the platform as a train coming from Tutuban was approaching.

“It seems that he intended to commit suicide,” he said.

A radio report, meanwhile, quoted other witnesses as saying that Peralta just slipped and fell on the train tracks by accident.

Operations were earlier affected due to the incident, Claro said, but noted that operations went back to normal some few minutes later.
