Vegetable vendor shot dead at trike terminal in Pasig City

MANILA, Philippines — A vegetable vendor was shot dead while unloading bundles of kangkong (water spinach) which he was about to trade for the day on Sunday morning in Pasig City.

The Pasig Police identified the victim as Ronaldo Rodriguez, a 38-year-old married vegetable vendor living at Phase 3, Villa Cuana, Nagpayong, Barangay (village) Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.

The killing happened at around 3 a.m. in front of a tricycle terminal near the Pasig Public Market on Balderama Street, Barangay Bambang, Pasig City.

Witnesses told the police that Rodriguez was unloading bundles of kangkong from his pickup truck when the killer, still unidentified, approached and started an argument with him. The assailant then fired his gun on the victim, who was killed on the spot.

Investigators later on recovered three empty shells believed to be from a 9mm-caliber pistol. The victim sustained gunshot wounds in the head.

The police are still trying to identify the killers and the motive behind the killing.
