Court sheriff shot dead in Sultan Kudarat

COTABATO CITY, Philippines– A court sheriff was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen on Tuesday while he was outside his house in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, police said.

Sheriff Edwin Cabug, of the Sultan Kudarat Regional Trial Court Branch 19, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Supt. Roel Surmese, the police chief of Isulan town.

Surmese told a radio station here that Cabug was cleaning the front of his house in Barangay (village) Sampao when one of two men riding in tandem on a motorbike shot him with a .45-cal. pistol.

The two men, who wore crash helmets, immediately fled, Surmese said.

He said investigators were looking at Cabug’s work or “personal relationships” as these could provide leads on the identities or motive of the suspects.
