MANILA, Philippines — Wednesday’s rain may last the whole day in Metro Manila and nearby provinces due to the intertropical convergence zone affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the state weather bureau said.

Jori Loiz, weather forecaster from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, told INQUIRER.net that although there was a low pressure area, the ITCZ and cloud clusters in West and East Philippine Seas that could turn into potential cyclones were bringing in rains.

At 9:35 a.m. Pagasa re-issued a thunderstorm advisory over Metro Manila, Bataan, Quezon, Laguna, Cavite. Pampanga, Rizal, Bulacan, portions of Batangas, Nueva Ecija and Zambales. Thunderstorms are seen in these areas in the next two hours.

“All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flashfloods,” Pagasa said.

In an amended weather bulletin, Pagasa said an ITCZ was  affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the east to northeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southeast to east over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, Pagasa said.
