WASHINGTON— Investigators are pursuing other “persons of interest” possibly linked to the deadly Boston Marathon bombings, US lawmakers said Sunday.

“There are still persons of interest in the United States that the FBI would like to have conversations with,” House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers told ABC’s “This Week.” The Michigan Republican declined to indicate how many such people were on the radar of authorities.

Dutch Ruppersberger, the top Democrat on the panel, said investigators were scouring telephone logs that took place before and after the April 15 twin blasts that killed three people and wounded more than 260.

Authorities have identified two brothers – Tamerlan and Dzokhar Tsarnaev— as the suspects.

Tamerlan died during a shootout with police days after the attacks, but his 19-year-old brother was captured alive and is being held at a federal prison medical center outside Boston.

Representative Michael McCaul, head of the House Homeland Security Committee, said the suspects likely got training from violent extremists, considering the “level of sophistication” of the device used for the attack.

Investigators are said to believe the Tsarnaevs’ pressure-cooker bombs were likely detonated by long-range remote controls.

McCaul also stressed that pressure-cooker bombs were a “signature device” used in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In addition, “the way they handled these devices and the trade craft leads me to believe that there was a trainer,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“And the question is, where is that trainer or trainers? Are they overseas in the Chechen region or are they in the United States?”

The lawmakers’ comments came as US media reported that Russian authorities secretly wiretapped the mother of the brothers, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, and recorded her discussing jihad in vague terms during a 2011 telephone conversation with Tamerlan.

Even though the conversation took place two years ago, the Russians only turned over the information to their US counterparts in recent days, according to the reports.

The investigation has also focused on a mysterious man named Misha who is said to have influenced Tamerlan and possibly encouraged him to go down a radical path.

Both the CIA and the FBI flagged Tamerlan over possible terror ties after Russian officials contacted the US agencies in 2011.

Reports said Russian authorities had also alerted their US counterparts about concerns that his mother was a religious extremist, and that she was added along with her older son to a terror watchlist.

Still, Rogers said Moscow has more information that would be “incredibly helpful.”

“There’s a cultural problem there between where the Russians are and our folks,” he said. “I believe that they have information, and had more information.”

Democratic Representative Adam Schiff claimed the Russians were not disclosing everything they know— especially in regards to the mother.

“There’s got to be a basis for why they went up on her electronically or why they went up on one of her affiliates or associates,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“We don’t know that. We haven’t received that information from the Russians,” he added. “I think they do know more than they’re telling us.”

Attention also turned to why US authorities failed to connect the dots and prevent the attacks— considering what they knew at the time, and in the wake of the lessons thought to have been learned from the intelligence failures leading up to the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, for one, told CBS’s “Face the Nation” that “we’re going to have to up our game.”

“It’s a failure to share information and missing obvious warning signs,” he said.

The Russians gave the US the information but I guess the americans distrusted it knowing that the suspects are of Chechen origin and are enemies of the Russians. Well, the americans miss the opportunity to consider the wire tapped info on the mother and conduct surveillance on the brothers especially the elder one. From the info given that the mother is a jihad extremist the americans are just to lazy to verify the facts. I guess the CIA and the homeland agency of the US is now so sorry about the snub on the info after the Boston pressure cooker bombing was undertaken by angelic looking islamist brothers. Hindi nila “winalis” agad ang mag kapatid so ang mga inosente ang nawalis.

you guess but dont know.. again the fbi receives thousands of tips from all over the world.. there isnt enough people to bug all of them and there is laws you have to follow before you can.. they had never done anything before so how would anyone know they were going to do anything now, and how do you know there were lazy or over whelmed.. there has been 40 bombings in the philippines in the last ten years why werent they stopped including the bombs in manlia and the philippines is a small country.

Because the same people doing bombings in the U.S. are the same people doing it in the Philippines. Globalist bankster gimmickry to push for new world order. order through chaos. The only difference is, the Philippine public has already experienced martial law and is so used to being pushed around by authority figures, security guards everywhere, that nothing comes out of any investigation as people clam up, forget and go about their business. This is the same response they are now trying to bathe the American public. Make the U.S. like a dumbed down, ineffectual 3rd world country police state.

The FBI knew about these two long before the bomb went off.
Why were the police carrying out a exercise looking for bombs on the day, yet failed to find this one.

in a race 26 miles long with hundreds of thousands of people . good luck there is probably a hundred thousand people or more on the fbi watch llist do they have the man power to watch everyone of them 24 hours a day or bug there phones. besides if they did that the bleeding hearts would say you are trampling on my civil freedom. in a country 50 times bigger than the philippines how do you watch eveyone.. .

You forget that spy satellites can see a bird crap from miles up. How else do they know if a country is building a nuclear facility? And we don’t know what else they have to be able to see over great distances. You would think that an international event like the marathon would be monitored from the sky. Even Korean Airlines 007 was seen being shot down in 1983 by a Soviet SU15 near Moneron Island in the Sea of Japan and U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond who was President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate at the time, admitted on TV that U.S. satellites saw it happen. What more today?

      • MC M

KAL 007 was flying near Sakhalin island, one of the hottest spots during the cold war Having a bird over that area sounds reasonable and has nothing to do with a marathon.

      • 33Sam

That was 30 years ago. It would follow that the eye in the sky would be everywhere by today’s technology. There was no google earth back then or at least they didn’t make it public in 1983. Military technology is always advanced and then declassified after some decades. Thurman’s admission was slip of the tongue when he mentioned that and after he said it the media did not repeat it. I’m willing to bet the marathon was recorded but of course they are not going to admit that.

The venue is publicly accessible with no occupancy limitations over the entire course of the race. It is not a controlled venue such as a stadium or concert arena where there are a limited and regulated (by law) number of people who are allowed to enter, with each person screened prior to entry. The main crowd surge will be near the finish line making it impossible for dogs to be used effectively once the crowd pressure is too large. Bomb dogs are always used early before any event to check venues but must be put away or held back and do not operate well in crowds. People (who are there to enjoy an event) do not enjoy having large dogs sniffing their junk and the risk of some idiot antagonizing the dog and getting bitten is also a concern and liability for the dog handlers. No conspiracy there, but more of a sad exploitation of the grey area and problems of actually being able to view and enjoy a public event or securing it so much that it is not even worth having the event.

Hehehe even George Dubya just released a statement on ABC News (4.24.2013) where he trips on the word “conspiracy.” The former White House resident, asked by ABC’s Dianne Sawyer if the Boston bombing reminded him of 9/11, Bush responded, “ I was deeply concerned that this coulda been um-ah you know, another CONSPIR, ah organized, ah, highly organized attack on the country” (Bush appeared to be saying the word ‘conspiracy” before he stopped himself). As Bush almost described the bombings as a conspiracy, his wife’s eyes popped out in fear at him. The look on “w’s ” face is something to behold.

These people are so used to pulling crap that no matter where they are now, they have a hard time knowing when they are stepping outside of their safety zone. The lines of reality are blurred to where they don’t know if they are among their kind eating roasted dead babies, or in front of a camera beaming to the dumbed down public.

    • 33Sam

      Yup!

  • 33Sam

Anything this floater Lindsey Graham says should be taken with a barf bag at the ready. “It’s a failure to share information and missing obvious warning signs,” he said. Yeah sure, what warnings signs should the average citizen be on the look out as regards this bombing and the lockdown?

Daddy war-bucks goes to bat for killing more middle easterners while telling tale tales about the Boston bombing. Ridiculous times we live in. People in power lying through their teeth. That worked decades ago. Not anymore..
