Rape try foiled by angry mob in Parañaque City

/ 11:14 PM February 15, 2013

A man suspected of planning the  rape of a 10-year old girl in Merville, Parañaque City, on Friday  was stopped by irate  bystanders  after he also took with him  a mother and her 7-year-old daughter as shields.

Village watchman Alfonso Gonzales of Barangay  Merville said Hermigio Zedeño, 24, dragged a 10-year old girl to a creek in South Admiral Village intending to rape her. The girl’s younger sister heard the victim shouting for help and immediately reported the incident to her mother.

To protect himself, Zedeño took another seven-year old girl and her mother as hostages. But the girl’s father, who saw the abduction, attacked the suspect.

As Zedeño ran away, bystanders pursued him until he reached a dead end. The suspect then threw stones at his pursuers, hitting several bystanders, including Samser Calagiya, the security guard of South Admiral Village. Zedeño, who was also hurt, was brought unconscious to the  Philippine General Hospital for treatment. Jodee A. Agoncillo
