Benedict will lose power of infallibility—Vatican

Pope Benedict XVI AP FILE PHOTO

VATICAN CITY—Pope Benedict XVI will lose his infallibility — his supreme authority in Church matters — as soon he steps down on February 28, the Vatican said on Wednesday as it struggles to explain a virtually unprecedented situation.

“These powers go with the office, so they will pass to the next pope…. Whoever renounces no longer has the assistance of the Holy Spirit to guide the Universal Church,” Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said at a briefing.

The issue is complex for many Catholics who believe the election of a pope is divinely inspired and are accustomed to popes remaining in office until death.

Benedict will be the first pope to resign in more than 700 years and only the second to do so voluntarily in the Catholic Church’s 2,000-year history.

Though papal infallibility was only set in stone in 1870, the idea had long been part of Church history and debate, and the notion of the Bishop of Rome as a preserver of apostolic truth was first mooted in the sixth century.

The special power has been used only once by a pope — in 1950 when Pius XII established the Assumption of Mary as Church dogma — and is limited to “ex cathedra” statements of doctrine or faith that apply to the whole Church.

While Benedict will have to drop his claim to being right all the time, the Vatican said that as ex-pope he will enjoy a pension of sorts when he retires as planned to a monastery with flower beds and a vegetable garden inside the Vatican walls.

“We will ensure he can live a dignified existence,” Lombardi said.

so RENOUNCE talaga, hindi RESIGN.. why o why?

    • batangpaslit

Bro, “renounce” talaga ang ginamit when Pope Benedict abdicated his Papacy.
In all likelihood, Pope Benedict saw the Light that such dogma about the Infallibility of his Office is false.
He even pronounced that the Doctrine of Purgatory is a teaching not found in the Scriptures.
Papacy is wrong. St Peter is not/not the first Pope.
Priests cannot marry. Pope cannot marry. But if St Peter is RCC’s first Pope, he and his fellow apostles, except St Paul, are all family men.
Many teachings in the RCC is false. The RCC parishioners were misled and deceived.
I wish the RCC parishioners would examine the Scriptures themselves and seek the Truth.
May the Almighty be upon you, Bro!

  • Pablo316

In the first place no man who ever lived except for the Lord
    Jesus Christ had it anyway.

RCC and its daughter churches – the protestants have
appropriated to themselves all the authority, power and self-appointed
privileges they can lay their hands on nevertheless the written words of God
remains the true authority when it comes to Christianity.

For any form of Christianity that is not based or warranted
by the Bible is but a Christianity of their own making. Thus we have the
following words of the Lord Jesus Christ written for our own admonition:

“There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not
accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last
    day.” (John 12:48)

The Bible is no respecter of religion nor of person, in fact
no one is above its words for they are the very words of God and themselves is
the ‘Sword of the Holy Spirit’ that even the Satan and the demons will not be
    able to defeat.

I therefore encourage every godly person to read, study and
live its pure and unadulterated teachings.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the
servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:17)

“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than
the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already
said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than
what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!” (Galatians 1:8-9)

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for
you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who
will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?”
Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the
sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very
near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.”
    (Deuteronomy 30:11-14)

Kapatid, it is my fervent prayer that may the RCC parishioners would seek the Truth through the reading of the inspired Written Word of GOD.
I had been giving out Bibles to some RCC parishioners who are interested in examing the Scriptures and square it with their current understanding of faith and practice.

“Whoever renounces no longer has the assistance of the Holy Spirit to guide the Universal Church.” I find this statement more disturbing than the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI itself. What is the basis of Lombardi’s statement? How can this spokesman speak for the Holy Spirit? Did anyone hear the Holy Spirit make that statement?  In the first place, what was the basis of the doctrine of infallibility? Was it because the Holy Spirit said it so?   When this doctrine was first adopted,  did the Holy Spirit actually say that the Pope is infallible in matters of faith? It seems to me that the doctrine of the Pope’s infallibility is put in an awkward situation.

    • batangpaslit

      rightly said, Bro
how I wish that the RCC parishioners would examine the Scriptures themselves and find out the Truth first hand

      • tillic

RCC parishioners read Scriptures. During the Mass there are at least three readings from the Scriptures. The Holy Office recited by priests, nuns and devout lay people is 90 per cent Scripture readings.

      • batangpaslit

Araceli, personally, I commend your strong conviction. Somehow, I sensed that there is missing.
What I said is “examine”, not mere superficial reading. Let’s examine, study, and meditate the passages of the Scriptures that we are reading.
Lip reading is not enough, Araceli. For even Lucifer, the Satan, is acquainted of the texts of the Bible.
I assume, you are a Bible “reader”. If so, let us a have a Bible Study here in this forum. Let us examine our faith and practice in the light of what the Scriptures say.
I would invite you examine the Book of Hebrews, and the Revelation 17.
And let us find out what the Holy Spirit say about true worship to the true Living Word of God.
May the Almighty One be with you, Araceli!

    • tillic

Infallibility is part of the teaching power of the Church. The Pope speaks infallibly on matters of faith and morals, either alone, or together with all the bishops of the world. Infallible pronouncements are very rare. Infallibility is tied to the position. So when Pope Benedict is no longer pope, he will not be able to speak infallibly. Infallibility will be the attribute of the new pope. Lombardi is the spokesman of the Vatican, not the Holy Spirit. Google “infallibility” on Wikipedia; it has a pretty good explanation, too long to repeat here.

      • reddfrog

So is that based on th Bible? Who invented this ” infallibility” concept?

      • judefawley

The infallibility of the Pope doctrine of the Roman Church is the reason why Martin Luther came out and changed the course of history.

      • batangpaslit

Araceli, I have a quick question for you:
Just for illustration purposes, if you are going to die today, do you know where you are going to spend your eternity?
        Would it be in Heaven
        or
        in Hell?

I would appreciate if we could discuss it from the Scriptures’s point of view, not/not from Mr Lombardi’s fallible statements.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PQPOCGSITYMSD2UTYIN4TJP56U Rene

We will ensure he can live a dignified existence,” Lombardi said.

-Why do they have to say this, is it not suppose to be the case, being an ex-pope? fishy fishy…

    • Pablo316

If we are to listen to what former Vatican insiders have been saying even before this event (the most famous of them might be former Jesuit priest Malachi Martin), that something dire is really happening inside the Vatican, something that even hardcore Roman Catholics may find it hard to believe – that is, Satanists are actively doing their works inside the very walls of the Vatican. And it seems that the chains of events that transpired through the years seem to lend credence to these disclosures.

Roman Catholics themselves are largely ignorant of what is happening in Vatican, so it will be no surprise if some would react violently to the fact that Vatican is now poised to recognize ‘space brothers’ and to present extra-terrestrials (or aliens who in truth are nothing but demons posing as entities from another planet) as just another fellow Roman Catholics to be baptized. Those who dare to challenge this should do their research first and see what RCC leaders in Vatican’s astronomical observatory are now saying.

Having said that, the best hope for God-fearing and God-seeking Roman Catholics is still to go back to the written words of God – the Bible; and so let me encourage them to do so that they may grow in the knowledge (that leads to salvation) and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

      God bless!

      • batangpaslit

        so be it..

  • batangpaslit

When Pope Benedict pronounced sometime ago that the Doctrine of Purgatory is not warranted in Scriptures, was he speaking as an Infallible head of the Roman Catholic Church, or was just the Pope Benedict’s personal opinion?

Why did Pope Benedict employed the term “renounce” when he read his letter of abdication of his Papacy? Is Pope Benedict persuaded that such lofty position and its attendant spiritual powers is, as well, unbiblical?

The Book of Hebrews, and Revelation 17 is a good read about faith and practice and the fate of the church that is headquartered in the City of Seven Hills.

Rome is the City of Seven Hills. Rome is the seat of Vatican, the capital city of RCC.

    • tillic

      (1) Regarding Purgatory – he was not speaking infallibly; that was his personal opinion.
      (2) He renounced his position because, at the age of 85, he is becoming too frail for the responsibilities of the papacy, not because he believes the position is unbiblical.
      (3) The Vatican is an independent state, although located in Rome.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/PQPOCGSITYMSD2UTYIN4TJP56U Rene

        (1) Regarding Purgatory – he was not speaking infallibly; that was his personal opinion.

so during the reign of any pope, he can just switch on and off his infallibility?
he can just say, ” i am not infallible now”  ” i am infallible now”? depending on the issue?

      • reddfrog

Careful or you’ll make the Catholics’ brain explode by trying to make them think.

      • batangpaslit

Bro, if the lightning bolt that struck the Dome of Vatican after Pope Benedict renounced his Papacy is a Divine Intervention for RCC to examine their man made dogma and unbiblical docrines and in the examination of the Scriptures would lead them to see the Light—–billions of souls would be save from eternal condemnation for worshipping false gods.
Prostitution of biblical truth abound in their teachings. Lucifer infiltrated the church, unfortunately, the church leaders failed to discern the encroachment of Satan.
There is money in selling Indulgences to buy the salvation of a dead relative from Purgatory.

      • batangpaslit

Rene, let’s pray in fervent that RCC parishioners would turn to the Light.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/3SHGRXPJCAF4OTQ673ARMKMYGE ricky sanoria

Yes indeed!  There are certain requirements before a pope can invoke Infallibility.  Infallibility does not mean that whatever the Pope says is always right.  That’s the problem with anti-Catholic people like you who is only good only in criticizing certain Catholic doctrine which you do not fully understand in the first place. Please, try reading and knowing the basic definition of infallibility first before criticizing it, okay?

      • batangpaslit

Thank you, Araceli, for helping me understand where Pope Benefict stands when he made those pronouncements, in particular the Doctrine on Purgatory.
Am curious for you sound intelligent.
May I inquire what is your position about Purgatory?
Do you believe too that eternal salvation and forgiveness are for sale?
Do you believe in trading Indulgences to bail out the soul of the dead person which is consigned in “Purgatory”?
I wrote Purgatory in quotation mark, because the Bible do not warrant this questionable doctrine.
        Human life is linear. When we die, either we are resurrected to Heaven;
        or
our life is consigned to Hell.
It is written in the Scriptures that it is appinted unto us to die, afterwards is judgment.
If I have to square this docrine of Purgatory against the inspired Written Word of GOD, this teaching of purgatory, is false in the light of what the Book of Hebrews says.
On papacy, I do not think it is supported in the Scriptures. I am persuaded that there is the office of the Bishop, not to lord over the flock, but to minister to GOD;s people.
Jesus Christ first came as a Suffering Servant—He modeled what is it to be GOD’s minister.
Perhaps, Pope Benedict got burned out because he is too intimate of the numerous teachings in RCC that are unbiblical.
When the lightning bolt hit the Dome of the Vatican after Pope Benedict renounced his Papacy that is a clear signal from Heaven that RCC must reform.
RCC must go back to the teachings of Christ before it was prostituted by man made dogma and false doctrine.
I invite you to read and study Revealtion 17.
Repeating myself, thank you for the info. It is tough to divine, eh, that an Infallible Pope speaks fallible too.

When it comes straight from the mouthpieces of the Vatican, “truth and infallibility” is a myth. For how could you regard the words and pronouncements of Pope Benedict XVI as infallible when he said it while still holding the powers of the papacy then regard it as not infallible when he is no longer the Pope, when he still maintains such statements or pronouncements as truths and as such are infallible?

To the Roman Catholic Church in particular, and Vatican in general, make a Full Disclosure of the Truth as soon as possible. You have been withholding the truth from your flock since time immemorial. Do it now before the RCC disintegrates to oblivion.

The latest pronouncement of the Vatican mouthpiece Lombardi just confirmed my previous post that there is more than meets the eye on the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI that indeed, “Either the Pope was pressured to resign by the powers that be or that the Pope finally realized that he could no longer bear the virtual realities perpetuated by the powers that be.” First, there is no need announce to the whole world that Pope Benedict XVI is no longer infallible once he vacates his post. Everybody knows this. Second, although the Pope is the most staunch defender of the traditional Catholic doctrines, it was Pope Benedict XVI who announced to his flock that “Indeed, there are extraterrestrial beings and we are not alone in the universe” although he hastened to add that :”They are also children of one God just like us.” This announcement effectively destroyed the long traditional dogma of Genesis about the creation of mankind. The Pope’s pronouncement was drawn from the findings of his top astronomer Guy Consolmagno who heads the group called Vatican Observatory Research Group, who are currently observing and studying extraterrestrial activities. Many believe that Vatican have documents and video tapes to prove this. That is why just recently, a group of US scientists obtained a letter from the US President and also from US Congress, requesting Vatican to share their information. Vatican denied the request but they did not deny the existence of the documents.

My gut feeling is Pope Benedict XVI is poised to announce something of profound effect and contrary to the traditional beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church hence, the need for him to renounce the papacy before he speaks. Vatican knows what Pope Benedict XVI is planning thus they saw it fit to preempt the Pope even before his resignation takes effect so that once the Pope speaks of profound knowledge, Vatican can always say that he is not infallible since “he is no longer guided by the Holy Spirit.” The RCC is in deep mess.

You know what? When PNoy went to Davos, Swtizerland the maintream media only focused on PNoy’s fantasized and scripted alleged achievement and therefore failed to report on the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) main agenda. For the information of all, the World Economic Forum warn the world leaders in their Resolution called. “Global Risk for 2013″ to prepare on two things. First, the advent of genetically altered humans and replace mankind with humans of serpentine qualities. Incidentally 2013 is the year of the snake. And second, the need to prepare for extraterrestrial life contact. The alarming thing about the two issues is that it is linked. Many underground scientists believe that the ETs agenda is to destroy human gnome and therefore win mankind into the dark side and defeat God.

Thanks to the subservient mainstream media, the entire filipino civilization failed to be aware of this alarming eventuality and it’s going to happen this year. Type Vatican Disclosure and hear the interview of Steve Quayle and Tom HZorn for more than 2 hours, most specially the last part.

If you are referring to life (as in human life), centuries shall pass but surely mankind will not find one. Humans are unique creatures, with intelligence and emotions not present to other creations (or evolutions). We continue to develop, increasingly at that, so that in 20 years new inventions will flood the  world that would fit as scifi movie if we view it from our present time. Life will be present in other worlds but not human life( the life that we know). Other worlds that are earth like are so distant that even if we travel at the speed of light it would take years for us to reach them and them tor each us. Forget ETS. Lets mind our own life.

not a good doctrine at all, Ibig bang sabihin mawawala sa kanya ang Holy Spirit pag nag-resign sya? Super natural authority indeed.

By way of a thought experiment, during the period when there is no Pope and the Cardinals are in conclave to select one, anyone can claim to be the only “infallible” human being in the world and no one can “refute” his claim unless the one refuting the former also claims “infallibility.”  But in such a situation a logical impossibility arises because both cannot be right.  The correctness of the claim of one implies the wrongness of the other’s claim.  But then if both are infallible, neither of them can be wrong.  And if both are right, each is at the same time fallible and infallible.  This would be against the Law of Contradiction, that is, that a thing cannot both be and not be in the same respect and at the same time.

This logical conundrum, very much similar to the question:  “What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?” is I think at the heart of why the Vatican has to make a pronouncement regarding the resigning Pope’s loss of infallibility upon leaving his office, and why they have to declare that “infallibility” attaches to the office and not the person. They have to preclude the existence of two “infallibles’ at the same time because the two can result in mutually exclusive concepts also existing at the same time. Especially if the two happen to say two different things about the same thing.  In short, an irresistible force logically precludes the existence of an immovable object.

But then one can always argue that if infallibility is an attribute of an “office” then there is no point in  going through the trouble of selecting the person to be “made” infallible.  As an irrefutable logical point , even anyone from UNA will do.  And they are all idiotic according to many.
    – – – – – -

    • Yxon

the infallibillity which is atributed to the office is to ensure the harmony in the organization.kaya nga kung pawang  irresistible force and immovable object and magtapat, puro gulo ang kalalabasan; paraho magaling; kaya naging 32,000 lahat ng christian denomination dito sa mundo. pawang nagsasabi yan, sila ang magaling, sila lang ang daan.
Tingnan mo ang UNA pagkatapos ng election, magiging WALA.

    • agaylaya

I appreciate your thought experiment and your ability to make things clearer (and many other posts you have) as I am not schooled in these matters. Pakiramdam ko lang there is something remiss with the situation. Paano kung yung bagong Pope sasabihin nya – ok na kayo gumamit ng condom (with all the implications regarding the beginning of life, the origin of life) and then si ex Pope na buhay pa sabihin nya – No way! Gulo ang mangyayari.

I am now inclined to believe that infallibility of the Pope by himself, is a false concept. Mas mabuti pang sabihin nila na sundan natin and sabihin ng College of Bishops under the leadership of the current Pope whoever he is. Yung presence ng Holy Spirit hindi dapat winawagay-way yon. Manalangin na lang tayo na sya ay nandyan always na gabay natin.

Infallibility regarding a Pope’s supreme authority in Church matters – it means infallibility within the bounds of the Roman Catholics’ beliefs.
This is common in all religion whether stated officially or not – that the leader has the last say in all matters regarding their belief and that he is always right.

  • speaksoftlylove

You know what? When PNoy went to Davos, Swtizerland the maintream media
only focused on PNoy’s fantasized and scripted alleged achievement and
therefore failed to report on the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) main
agenda. For the information of all, the World Economic Forum warn the
world leaders in their Resolution called. “Global Risk for 2013″ to
prepare on two things. First, the advent of genetically altered humans
and replace mankind with humans of serpentine qualities. Incidentally
2013 is the year of the snake. And second, the need to prepare for
extraterrestrial life contact. The alarming thing about the two issues
is that it is linked. Many underground scientists believe that the ETs
agenda is to destroy human gnome and therefore win mankind into the dark
    side and defeat God.

Thanks to the subservient mainstream media,
the entire filipino civilization failed to be aware of this alarming
eventuality and it’s going to happen this year. Type Vatican Disclosure
and hear the interview of Steve Quayle and Tom HZorn for more than 2
hours, most specially the last part.

Yes, and Et is already writing in this paper under the synonym of spitfire and some other names.

  • doublecross

    get well soon, apo pope….

  • kilabot

    no man is infallible.
    not even the pope;
    the church under the pope committed mistakes;
    infallibility is exclusive to God.

    • Yxon

that is only true to the RC organization;  para magkaintindihan; para hindi marami ang hindi sasalungat at magbuo ng 32,000 na religious denomination (kasi bawat isa puro tama raw)

    • Yxon

yes the Pope committed mistakes and sins…who says that he cant?

The Pope can exercise the “power of the
keys” in making what is called an infallible pronouncement which is
binding on the Catholic Church (not encompassing to those outside) . Infallibility means that the Pope is preserved
from error when, as supreme pastor and teacher of all the faithful, he
proclaims by a definitive act a doctrine pertaining to faith and morals.
It should not be confused it with impeccability or
personal inerrancy. Infallibility does not mean that the Pope cannot
sin. The Holy Father also goes to the Sacrament of Confession frequently and
      acknowledges his sinfulness at Mass.
      Likewise,
infallibility does not mean that the Pope cannot make a mistake when he talks
about mathematics, science, or some other nonreligious matter.

      To teach infallibly,
the Pope must be teaching on faith or morals; he must speak with his full
      authority as the Successor of Peter and head of the universal Church on earth;
he must make a final pronouncement on a doctrine at issue, and he must bind all
the faithful to accept his teaching or fall away entirely from the divine and
      Catholic faith.

The pope is never considered infallible in
his personal or private views. Thus, others such as personal correspondence,
even that in which a sensitive issue is addressed, is not infallible because it
is not meant to bind all the faithful.

      • Cruxofthematter

So he was infallible once and he is now not infallible? So that infallibility is temporary? What other grounds would he lose it? Say, if he does not resign, is there any other way to lose it? Absurd…

      • Yxon

you read properly what i had written so that you could comprehend; it goes with the office, if he’s out he’s not. and it applies only to his pronouncements on faith, morals, doctrine of the church which intends to bind the faithful.
you’re the one being absurd, dipping your fingers into another’s plate then wonders why that man is eating such. dont be bothered, his infallibility does not encompasses and does not concern you. (or are you just jealous?)
cncentrate your efforts n bringing souls to God because that is our mandate from Him (hope you knew it), not destroying other christians of different sects

    • Cruxofthematter

Now Lombardi can decide who is infallible…:-) that’s cute.

bago mag comment alamin muna ang meaning ng infallability sa context ng Catholic Church, pra hindi magmukhang tanga

  • les21reago

Lombardi seem the holy spirit and infallible.

  • tamakajan

Can a committee decide where the Holy Spirit can be used? Can they take away the Holy Spirit just like the Pope that resigned? Can a group of pople can be that powerful? Can he lead anymore or he resigned in his Christian duty?

    • agaylaya

I have the same troubling concern. How can this Lombardi declare that “whoever renounces no longer has the assistance of the Holy Spirit to guide the Universal Church”.

Paano na kung si soon to be ex pope nag declare bago magexpire ang kanyang ‘license” na infallible parin sya even after his being a Pope at habang sya ay buhay? Or after his being a Pope and while he is at the monastery at nag contemplate at nagsulat ng mga bagay na taliwas sa sinanasabi or ginagawa ng bagong Pope? At sasabihin pa nya na ang Holy Spirit ay kasama nya?

Kung ang mga bagay na ito ay posible, ibig sabihin may butas yung concepto ng infallibility of the Pope on matters of faith and morals by himself OR together with the bishops.

      • Cruxofthematter

So, who has the say on whether the Pope should be infallible…the spokesman for the Vatican or the Pope himself?

One more question–why is it called “the universal Church”?

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/SPLUBLEOSERDBOIJTDOC6XIWGU mxsclxmxn

its a Church for all! One. Holy. Apostolic. Catholic. Yan ang simbahan na tinatag ng Panginoon! isa lng ang tinatag na simbahan!

hindi maraming reliyon na katulad sa mga tinatayo ng mga pastor. Lahat natinayo ay tinatag lang ng tao! Kita mo iba iba paniwala nila!

Kaya ito mga PEKE! Kahit anong gawin nila. Kahit malaki simbahan nila. Kahit dumadami sila, PEKE pa rin RELIHIYON nila!

      • Cruxofthematter

Why did Paul write to different churches? Review and read again. Apostolic. What is an apostle? Are there still apostles today. Read again.
The RCC was instituted by the then “Christians” who made councils and synods to agree on certain issues, until it decidedly it should marry with paganism. But the other true Christians did not join and these are the true blue Christians of today- the remnant, so the minority. The Roman religion is abundant with all forms of Babylonian, Egyptian, Roman and Greek idolatry, how could this be? One glaring error after another – infallibility, transubstantiation, purgatory, all of these transform God to a level below humans and corrupt the true and living God who ought to be worshipped alone and no one else…

      • Yxon

please comprehend what was written……do not be blinded by your pastor’s rattling.
his infallibility goes only with is pronouncements binding to the faith, morals and doctrine of the church. ikanga sa secular term, para iisa lang ang paggalingan ng doctrina na yan, mula sa proclaimation lang ni Pope; (and dont worry some proclaimations were prepared for him by the Magisterium); para hindi magiging 32,000 lahat ang denomination ng mga sekta; kasi lahat puro magagaling, ikanga ng isa, kung mgkabangga ang matalino at magaling, sino ang papatusin? ang kalalabasan, gagawa naman ng kanyang sariling sekta.
        simple?
confusion? why had it survived for 2,000 years inspite of the scandals it had been involved in? and why the church dogma is still the same? even with the advent of the modern age? think clearly with an unbiased mind.
i dont know why you keep listening on teachings which are focussed on destroying your fellow christians? isnt it our mission to bring back lost souls to the FAther? is it also your mission?

      • tamakajan

“why had it survived for 2,000 years inspite of the scandals it had been involved in? and why the church dogma is still the same?”Answer 1: Denial with pride.Answer 2: How about Velarde’s group? Is it not what you call changes in doctrine of this universal church? i am attending mass long before I know ABC and i seen a radical changes in the church and I believe it cannot survive without the influence of the minority group you are partaining to. We have now politics, jokes and wrangling sermons and i believe it sucks.By the way, just stick with the subject and do not divert the issue to the other groups, sounds pathethic though.

      • Yxon

Velarde’s group?… it is just a charismatic group.. it is still with the catholic supervision…have you seen Bishop Bacani saying mass to them?
so you “believe”?…if you are not sure please dont let it out as it could just harm others… a minority group could not influence a majority  . .policies and teachings in the church are determined by a Magisterium presided by Pope.
my answer still pertains to the subject….still on infallibility subject…which is the key to prevent the chaos in an organization such a church if doctrines and teachings comes from every direction;  which would just result to the creation of many denomination due to discontentment and pride.
        hope you got this one.
I suggest you do some readings pertaining to the mass (RC websites have it) inorder to appreciate it and not just dwell on the weakness of the sermons (i still believe that sermons still comes from the Holy spirit and that the priest are just conduits).

      • tamakajan

“…if you are not sure please dont let it out as it could just harm others…”You are typical RC, you are clinging to the system you yourself are confused, you just want the Religion and not the truth. Why not let it all out? I mean there should be a crash course seminar on the foundation of the RC Church right not just attending mass or maybe the priest will teach how the system works during or before his sermon? Tell them that we are under Rome and we should abide in their decisions.
I still believe it revolutionize the Dogma of Filipino Church.
“….still on infallibility subject…which is the key to prevent the chaos in an organization such a church if doctrines and teachings comes from every direction”
Please educate me where in the Bible you can see a system that mentioning a “Infallibility of a Pope or a single person”? Do you believe that the Bible has the last say in anything and every Christian religion formed in this earth?
One thing is for sure Biblical teaching are far apart from the system that is the RC church. That is why this terms are not even mentioned in the mass and not known to the ordinary believers.
Dear, I am not dwelling on the weakness, I just want a Biblical truth, or close to an infallible priest that can lead me to the truth.

Natural!

Infallibility. The famous infallible pronouncements of the church. That the earth is flat. That the sun revolves around the earth. Everything is fruit of creation instead of resulting from evolution.

  • Mark Vincent Mercado

Infallibility does not mean “being right all the time”. (note to the writer)

We teach and define that it is a dogma Divinely revealed that the Roman pontiff when he speaks ex cathedra, that is when in discharge of the office of pastor and doctor of all Christians, by virtue of his supreme Apostolic authority, he defines a doctrine regarding faith or morals to be held by the universal Church, by the Divine assistance promised to him in Blessed Peter, is possessed of that infallibility with which the Divine Redeemer willed that his Church should be endowed in defining doctrine regarding faith or morals, and that therefore such definitions of the Roman pontiff are of themselves and not from the consent of the Church irreformable. – Pastor Aeternus, 1870

Hanggang umi-ihi na sa saluwal, tulo na ang laway, dumudumi na sa upuan, ulyanin na (pardon my French) kapit tuko pa rin sa pwesto? And what is the reason for that, infallibility? Pope Alexander VI. His mistress was the 15 year old Gulia Farnese. The statue of Gulia, who was mockingly called “sponsa Christi”  meaning bride of God, can still be viewed in the Vatican. Originally this statue of her showed her in her beautiful nakedness, later it was covered with a coat made of lead. The other mistress was Vanozza de´Cattanei. With this woman he sired 4 children.
Cesare, the son of Alexander, became Bishop of Valencia.

  • fides249

The article wrongly stated that “the special power has been used only once by a pope — in 1950 when Pius XII established the Assumption of Mary as Church dogma”.

Actually that was the second time that a Pope invoked ‘ex-cathedra’ (from the Chair of Peter) a Catholic dogma. The first one was the Immaculate Conception which means that from the moment when Mary was conceived in the womb of her mother (Anne), she was kept free of original sin by God and was filled with the sanctifying grace. This dogma was not formally proclaimed until December 8, 1854, by Pope Pius IX in his papal bull Ineffabilis Deus.

Note that both dogma has been part of the Sacred Tradition of the Church. They were NOT ideas that just pop out of a Pope’s mind.

  • fides249

Araceli, you probably mean ‘Divine Office’ (aka Liturgy of the Hours) and NOT ‘Holy Office’. The ‘Divine Office’ is the universal prayer of the Church to sanctify the hours of the day with prayer. It is mostly froml Scriptures except the ‘Office of Readings’ Second Reading which is usually from the early Fathers, Popes’ homilies, saints’ homilies and books, Church documents (like Vatican II documents), etc.
Catholics ‘usually hear (some read it along) Scriptures’ during the Liturgy of the Word in the Mass.

“…20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin…..”
“….23 for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,….”

      • GKLer

This is what “infallible” Popes expressing their version of the “will of God” did for 600 years:

1184AD Synod of Verona – Declared heretics be burned (Bible groups, Catholics who questioned the power of the pope).
1199AD Pope Innocent III – Burned French Bibles, and did not permit the people to have more.
1203-1808 50+ million people are estimated to have been murdered and tortured by the RC Inquisition for crimes including possession and reading the Bible in English, French, Spanish, German etc.
1208-1226 The RC army was sent to kill Albigenesian Christians.
1215AD Lateran Council declared heretics be burned and property taken.
1229AD The RC Inquisition executed and confiscated the property of 32000 Al bigensian Christians in Toulouse France.
1229AD Canon 14 – Church Council of Toulouse – We prohibit the laity to have OT and NT, and their translation of these.
1234AD Pope Gregory IX ordered Bible burning.
1234AD Council of Tarragona – No one may possess OT and NT, you must turn them over to the local bishop with 8 days, so that they may be burned.
1408AD Synod of Oxford – Declared “heresy” to posses an unauthorized English Bible (a Bible not approved by the Roman Catholic Church).
1559AD Pope Pius IV – Index of Trent 1559 – Index of Librorum Prohibitorum – Whoever reads or has a translation cannot be absolved from his sins until he turns in his Bible. All unauthorized Bible are forbidden.
        1525AD 6000 Tyndale NT burned.
1600AD 10000 Bibles burned by order of Ferdinand II.
1713AD Pope Clement II – Condemned reading the Bible.
1844AD Pope Gregory – Declared those favoring Bible societies were guilty of the greatest crime against God and Church.
