MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon “Kabayan” (international name: Muifa) has maintained its strength and is still moving west northwestward, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday.

But no storm signal warnings were raised, Pagasa said, adding that the weather disturbance was too far to directly affect any part of the country.

In its latest weather bulletin, Pagasa said that as of 11 a.m., Kabayan was seem 1,030 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes and was still packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gusts of up to 200 kph.

Kabayan was forecast to move west northwestward at 11 kph, Pagasa said.

However, Kabayan and the low pressure area were expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring heavy rains over Luzon which may trigger flashfloods and landslides, Pagasa said.

By Thursday morning, Kabayan was forecast to be 840 km northeast of Basco, Batanes and by Friday morning, the typhoon was expected to be 670 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes or 100 km south southwest of Okinawa, Japan.
