Veteran journalist Florencio Narito writes 30

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines—Veteran journalist Florencio “Flor” Narito, 70, a former news correspondent of Inquirer Southern Luzon and a retired employee of the defunct National Media Production Center died Tuesday of a heart ailment at his residence in Barangay (village) Bonot in this city.

Narito also wrote for various weekly tabloids in Bicol, including the Naga City-based Bicol Mail, other national broadsheets such as Joe Burgos’ newspaper Malaya during the martial law years. He also wrote for foreign wire news services. At the time of his death he was writing newsstories for the Manila Standard Today.

“Tio Flor” to his present-day colleagues, he was one of the pioneer members of the Nutrition Communication Network of the Department of Science and Technology in Bicol. A widower, he is survived by his only son, Florencio.

His remains lie at the Bonot Chapel in Legazpi City and his interment will be on Saturday afternoon at the Donsol town cemetery in Sorsogon.
