ANS, USC wrest U-18 titles in Sinulog football

THE Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy and University of San Carlos (USC) were crowned champions in the Under 18 category in yesterday’s start of the 3rd Sinulog Football Cup at the USC-TC football field.

ANS Pomeroy foiled what would have been a double title for USC after surviving four sudden deaths during the penalty shootout before clinching the men’s title, 7-6, against USC while the USC lady booters cruised to the women’s title with a 2-0 victory against Ateneo de Cebu (AdC).

The regulation match between ANS and USC ended at 1-all.

In the semifinals, ANS-Pomeroy booted out visiting team Alia FC of Zamboanga, 3-0, while the USC lady booters clinched their finals entry with a 3-0 demolition of Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion.

At the San Roque football field, Springdale A finished with the Under 15 title while AdC A went home with the Under 11 title.

In the Under 15, Springdale A, who topped bracket D, frustrated Villa del Rio 2 (VDR2) 3-0 for the title.

Springdale A advanced to the final round with a 5-4 edging of AdC A while VDR2 foiled an all-Springdale finals by defeating Springdale B, 4-1, in the semifinals.

In the U11, AdC A clinched the title with a 1-0 edging of USC-BED. AdC A got to the finals also with a 1-0 score against VDR2 while USC BED got past Suba Basbas FC.

In Springdale, the Under 7 and Under 9 titles went to DB Razkals and Lahug B, respectively.

DB Razkals notched the Under 7 title with a 1-0 beating of AdC while Lahug B defeated sister team Lahug A.

The tournament will resume today with the Men’s Open at the USC-TC and Ladies Open, BPO and 38-Above categories at the San Roque.  /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
