CAMP PACIANO RIZAL, Philippines—A still unidentified robber was killed by the police following a short chase after he held up a businesswoman in San Pedro, Laguna, at noon on Sunday.

Superintendent Kirby Kraft, the San Pedro police chief, said in a text message that the slain man and his male companion robbed at gunpoint businesswoman Maricel Medina as she was about to board her owner-type jeepney in Barangay (village) Poblacion at around 12:45 p.m.

The robbers took away Medina’s handbag and fled on board their motorcycle but this immediately caught the attention of policemen stationed nearby. The robbers started firing at the police, prompting the authorities to shoot back, said Kraft.
