WOMAN NABBED FOR FAKE CHECKS

A 43-YEAR-OLD woman was arrested after she tried to encash fake checks at a bank inside a mall in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Julita Casili of brangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City will be charged for estafa.

She was detained at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

Police investigation revealed that Casili went to the Banco De Oro (BDO) in SM City-Cebu around 3 p.m. last Saturday.

Police said Casili endorsed four checks from different banks amounting to P55,620 at the counter.

Police said it was Alexis Tan of BDO and branch manager Alfonso Tam who discovered that the checks were fake.

Casili was told to stay while the bank management called the police.

In an interview in her detention cell, Casili said she didn’t know that the checks were fake.

Casili said she found a BDO check amounting to P23,000 while she was strolling near the Plaza Independencia around 11 a.m. last Saturday.

The BDO check was under the name of Marilou Hyden or Christer Hyden dated Sept. 22.

The other checks turned over by BDO-SM to the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) of CCPO were two BDO-SM checks amounting to P25,000 under Abacor Manpower Solution and an RCBC check amounting to P7,620.

But Casili denied ownership of the other checks and said that she only tried to encash one check amounting to P23,000./REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL

MOTORIST KILLED IN COLLISION

A MAN was killed when the motorcycle he drove collided with a van in barangay Cambaru, Mandaue City.

Julian Wahing, believed to be in his 60’s, died while being brought to the Mandaue District Hospital.

PO2 Rolando Gelido, investigator of the Traffic Management Unit (TMU) of the Mandaue police, said Wahing was traveling towards the Maguikay flyover when his motorcycle collided with a van  driven by Jose Victor Mendez, 27.

Police said the collision occurred when the van encroached the opposite lane.

Mendez was detained at the Opao police station pending the filing of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide charge against him, said police./CORRESPONDENT JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS

MAN FOUND DEAD

THE body of an unidentified man riddled with bullets was found in barangay Tubod, Minglanilla town in southern Cebu.

The man believed to be in his 20’s had gunshot wounds in the head and  back when he was found by three children in a hilly area in sitio Pitogo past 11 a.m. last Saturday.

The man was clad in a pair of black and white checkered short pants, a brown and violet T-shirt, and bore tattoos in the chest and back.

Police said no one from the area identified the man.
