Police nab Bulacan fraternity member for hazing

MANILA, Philippines – Police on Monday arrested a 19-year-old member of a fraternity in Bulacan following a complaint by seven teenagers who went through the organization’s rigorous initiation rites.

The teenagers, six male and a female, were not identified. They were being recruited into the Scout Royal Brotherhood fraternity by the two suspects: Jayvee Guan, 19, who was arrested and Renan Lezaba, who is still at large.

Police Superintendent Miguel Atienza, Deputy Chief of Bulacan Provincial Public Information Office, said in the statement that the victims “were subjected to physical and psychological harms as part of the requirements for admission in the group.”

Investigation by police showed that the victims “were hit by paddles during the conduct of the initiation rites” that took place at 6:15p.m. in Barangay (village) Muzon, City of San Juan Del Monte, Bulacan

The victims reported  the hazing after and police launched an operation that led to the arrest of Guan

The other suspect, Lezaba, remains at large. Police said they are preparing charges of Violation of the Anti-Hazing Law.
