Dodie Jr. rushed to hospital after knocking out Indon foe
Dodie Boy “Dugong Kampeon” Peñalosa Jr. kept his winning streak alive with a ninth-round knockout win over Indonesian Alex Buckie in the main event of the Dugong Kampeon V card at the Mandaue Cultural and Sports Complex Saturday night.
The win was Peñalosa’s ninth in as many bouts, all of which coming by way of knockouts. Buckie, a veteran journey man from Indonesia, dropped to 13-26-6 (win-loss-draw) with 7 KOs.
Although the fight was Peñalosa’s longest in his career, it still showed the same results.
Buckie was downed twice in the second round after being hit by ferocious combinations from Peñalosa. In the ninth, Referee Danrex Tapdasan reached the ten count at the 2:32 mark after Buckie failed to recover from Peñalosa’s left straight.
ASTHMA ATTACK
But Peñalosa’s celebration was cut short after the bout after he was rushed to the hospital because of an asthma attack.
Peñalosa was in perfect condition after the fight. Shortly after, he complained of difficulty of breathing. The Mandaue City rescue team attended to him and was immediately rushed to a hospital.
According to his uncle and promoter, two-division world champion Gerry Peñalosa Jr., the younger Peñalosa was able to recover and is now resting.
For now, Gerry is trying to arrange the schedule of Dodie Boy Jr.’s start of training in Baguio City with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.
Dodie Boy Jr.’s debut fight in foreign soil, particularly in the United States, is also being arranged by Gerry with the help of Pacquiao.
“I have seen his stamina and I was convinced and impressed by his performance, I think that he is ready to train in Baguio and fight in the undercard of Pacquiao on June 9. It’s up to his father Dodie Boy Sr. if he will let his son train with Pacquiao.”
Meanwhile, Philippine featherweight champion Michael Fareñas was in one of his worst boxing fights of his career against Jayson Egera but still managed to pull off a controversial split decision win in their 10-round non-title matchup.
Fareñas controlled some of the first five rounds by connecting on one-two combos.
Egera bounced back in the last five rounds, punishing Farenas with accurate combinations to the head and body.
Fareñas escaped with a controversial decision, with scores of 95-93 on two judges’ scorecards and a third judge scoring for Egera at 96-92.
OTHER RESULTS
Dodie Boy Jr.’s younger brother Dave Peñalosa knocked out Jumar Torreon in the second round of their match.
Dave bombarded Torreon with body shots and hooks and was downed at the 1:54 mark of the second round.
On the other hand, Donaire Stable’s young prospect Joebert Alvarez overwhelmed Peñalosa stable’s Renren Tesorio in a lopsided fashion. Alvarez won via unanimous decision.
Rommel Banquirigo won by technical decision in the fifth round over Raymund Empic after an accidental headbutt caused a large cut in Banquirigo’s right cheek.
Dr. Jose Unabia decide to stop bout for safety reasons.
Aldrin Guara, meanwhile, beat Jerome Casas by split decision and Omega Stable’s Jack “Golden Boy” Tepora knocked out Raymund Fermin in the final round of their four-round showdown. Sherwin Caday won over Alex Belonguel via unanimous decision.
