Water supply back in Masbate City

The water supply in Masbate City returned to normal after the main pipe of the Masbate-Mobo Water District (MMWD) that was busted by the magnitude 5.2 earthquake that rocked the city on Monday was fully repaired.

Armundi Ataiza, production head of MMWD, said the water supply in the city was restored on Saturday following the repair of the damaged pipe in Barangay Tugbo.

The pipe damage caused a three-day water outage in the entire city, the provincial capital of Masbate province, so that residents had to rely on water rations.

But normal water supply, in the case of the city battling water woes, still means scarcity.

The MMWD can only provide water to the city proper and some neighboring villages of adjacent Mobo town, 6 kilometers from the city. The upland villages of the city get water from artesian wells and some wells dug out of the hills.

Ataiza said he even anticipated that the water provided by the MMWD would not be enough for the summer season, when consumption is expected to soar.
