3 Chinese face deportation

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday said it had taken into custody three Manila-based Chinese jewelers who were arrested by the police for swindling a Filipino businessman of P200,000. Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. issued the order committing Jin Yao Quan, Lin Yee Pin and Chin Chan Cing to the immigration detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig City, after they were found to be using spurious immigration documents to stay in the country. David also directed the BI legal division to institute summary deportation proceedings against the aliens for violating the Philippine Immigration Act. “However, they will remain in jail pending resolution by the court of the criminal complaint that was filed against them,” he said. The three Chinese were turned over to the BI on June 3 by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group based on the complaint of Rodolfo Mendoza who accused them of failing to deliver the jewelry he bought from them for P200,000.—Jerome Aning

According to sketchy reports, the victim sustained 45 stab wounds in different parts of the body. His body was discovered by a room caretaker, Evangeline Padilla, at around 12:30 p.m.—Tina G. Santos
