LPA off Zamboanga brings rain but won’t intensify into storm – Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines – A low pressure area off Zamboanga City has brought heavy rain over parts of Mindanao and Visayas, but was unlikely to intensify into a cyclone, forecaster Raymond Ordinario said Tuesday.
The tail-end of a cold front, the convergence of warm and moist air with dry and cold air, however, would bring rain over Southern Luzon and Visayas, he said.
The LPA, spotted 160 kilometers west of Zamboanga City Tuesday morning, spawned heavy rainfall over Mindanao and Visayas Monday night. But it has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression, Ordinario said.
It would continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, he said.
The tail-end of the cold front would bring cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms over Southern Luzon and Visayas that could trigger flashfloods and landslides, Ordinario said.
“These areas should expect moderate to heavy rain,” he said.

The weather bureau advised residents living near river banks, low-lying areas and mountain slopes to watch out for floods and landslides.
