Calabarzon floods: Nearly 36,000 people, including 400 BJMP detainees, evacuated

More than 400 detainees of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) were among nearly 36,000 evacuees affected by heavy rains in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon (Calabarzon) on Monday.

In a report by the Calabarzon police, a total of 35,649 individuals and 482 inmates have been evacuated to Guitnang Bayan Elementary School in San Mateo, Rizal.

The report also showed that the number of evacuees reached 34,727 individuals or 7,105 families in the municipality of Rizal alone.

In Cavite area, authorities recorded 922 families affected by the flood caused by the continuous rain in the country.

Authorities also said that there were a total of 706 evacuation centers located in the five provinces of Region 4A.

Meanwhile, the BJMP detainees were relocated to Guitnang Bayan Elementary School in San Mateo, Rizal for temporary shelter.

Despite this, the Calabarzon police noted that no casualties or injuries in the whole region were recorded following the flooding incident.   /vvp
