Two killed in Baguio construction accident

BAGUIO CITY – Two people were buried alive here on Wednesday afternoon when portions of Sandico Street collapsed near a construction site, dragging the makeshift office of FC Laranang Construction.

Workers raced to dig out Patrick Lachica, 23, the project engineer, and Hannah Jean Aragon, 22, human resource representative, from the mud at about 2 p.m. at the construction site being put up by the Megapines Realty and Development Inc.

But they were dead when rescuers pulled them out, according to Rafael Valencia, one of the first responders from rescue volunteer group, 911-On Call.

He said the collapse took place during strong rains. The accident site which was near a residential area here and behind an elementary school.

The bodies of the victims were brought to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center. /ee
