BAGUIO CITY – A 16-year-old boy drowned in the city’s man-made lake at Burnham Park after midnight on Thursday (May 31), the Cordillera police said.

The teen ran through the park’s Lake Drive before he leapt into the lake at 1:10 a.m., according to two witnesses, who said they tried to convince the boy to swim back. But the boy submerged and did not surface.

SPO4 Miguel Gayaden, a member of the city’s Tourist Police Unit, dove in and pulled out the unconscious boy, who was rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC). But the boy died at 5:30 a.m.

The boy, a local resident, was identified through his medical records at BGHMC.
