Earthquakes rock Mindanao
ZAMBOANGA CITY – A series of earthquakes hit Mindanao on Friday, with the strongest one recorded at magnitude 4.4 and took place around 10:19 a.m. off Tabina town in Zamboanga del Sur province.
However, the quake was barely felt here at intensity 1, according to Allan Rommel Labayog of the local office of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
On its website, Phivolcs said the 10:19 a.m. tectonic tremor was felt at intensity 3 in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat province and at intensity 2 in Cotabato City.
Phivolcs said prior to the magnitude 4.4 tremor, a magnitude 2.1 jolt was also recorded in Kiamba town in Sarangani province at 8:13 a.m.
There was also the 3.3 quake recorded in Pantukan town, Compostela Valley province at 10:44 a.m. and another in Palimbang, which was recorded at 11:10 a.m.
Phivolcs said it was not expecting any damage or aftershocks from any of the tremors. Julie Alipala INQ
