Reelected village council member gunned down in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – A reelected barangay kagawad (village council member) in Mulanay town in Quezon province was shot and killed by a motorcycle-riding gunman on Thursday morning.

Felix Moldon, re-elected council member in Barangay Sta. Rosa, was shot by an unidentified man using a handgun of still unknown caliber, while waiting along the roadside of Barangay Sto. Niño around 7:45 a.m., said Chief Insp. Joselito Araja, Mulanay police chief, in a spot report.

The gunman fled aboard his motorcycle after the shooting.

Moldon was rushed to a hospital in the nearby town of Catanauan but died along the way, police said.

Combined policemen and Army soldiers were tracking down the gunman.

Policemen were still investigating if the killing was politically motivated, election-related or personal.

Early last month, motorcycle-riding criminals also shot and killed Domingo Rueda, chairman of Barangay Cambuga.

The killing remains unsolved.
