2 IEDs found in Maguindanao blast site

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities recovered on Wednesday morning two improvised explosive devices on the road leading to the Maguindanao massacre memorial site, shortly after a blast hit the area, said Director Felicisimo Khu Jr., chief of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Western Mindanao.

He said that 105 and 81 millimeter bombs were found by police officers in the area.

An explosion rocked the area near the memorial site of the massacre at around 6 a.m., police said.

Nobody was hurt in the explosion.

Khu said that they inspected the area on Tuesday after receiving intelligence reports from both police and military that bombings may take place on Wednesday.

Two years ago on November 23, 57 people on their way to file the certificate of candidacy of then Buluan town vice mayor now Maguindanao governor Esmael Mangudadatu, were killed in a gruesome massacre in Maguindanao province.

To date, only 95 of the 196 accused have been captured.
