Warning to drivers: Ferry ‘flying voters’ at your own risk
An official from the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) warned on Sunday of harsh penalties for drivers who would allow their vehicles to be used to transport “flying voters” during today’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
“Aside from [a] ‘colorum’ violation, drivers and operators might face jail time according to the Omnibus Election Code,” said I-ACT head and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary Tim Orbos.
DOTr officials announced on Sunday that its operations against colorum and out-of-line vehicles would be intensified today “to counter vehicles ferrying ‘hakot’ and flying voters.”
Penalties for the election-related offenses of the driver and voters will be “deferred to the Commission on Elections for further investigation.”
